Today, it is common thing that, we appoint person or a group of persons to do certain tasks at home. They are known as House keepers or maids or respectfully known as home servants. The owner who keeps the house keepers are termed as master.

House keepers perform do day-to-day routine work, such as washing the clothes, cleaning vessels, sweeping and cleaning the rooms. They are paid for their work done by their master, usually on monthly basis.

Different duties and different timings

The timings of work differ from house to house. Some such persons will work only in the morning, and some of them will do their job in the evening also. Some stay in their master’s house and work as full time workers. They do all work including cooking, gardening, etc. Such workers are usually contracted for 6 months or yearly or even more than that. The master has to pay in a lump sum to the hired person of course, in installments or a fixed salary per month.

Choose right candidate for house hold works

From master’s point of view, he must choose right candidate for house hold works. As there are many things to be kept in the house such as jewels, etc, it is his luck, if he gets an honest house keeper. One may scratch their head or tail to think about this issue. But, the underlying truth is that, you can easily make out, that the house keeper is honest or some big thief. Go out and gather the opinion of your next door neighbors. Talk politely to the neighbors and gather information. It is not easy to come to a final conclusion about honesty. Try to gather as many as information as possible, so that, it can make you to strongly go ahead.

The information can be of the following type.

• From where the maid is coming from.
• Family background, if possible.

Family background

Police can be helpful, in tracing out family background, criminal background history, if any, of the maid who will be appointed by you. It will be an easy way to know their past history. In countries like India, dealing with police force is, tricky some and sometimes trouble some also. So, many people do not tap door of police station for enquiries like these smaller issues. But, from my point of view, going to the police station is not that much trouble some. Always be brave and be positive, and go to the police people, if you want to gather some more information. Police people may help you to know the criminal background of the person who is going to be appointed as a maid.

Don’t keep the valuables exposed

Make sure that, you don’t keep the valuables exposed to you and others. It will be dangerous to keep valuable things such as jewelries, in home. Always keep in mind that, jewelries can be nice to look as well as can prove to be very dangerous. Suffocation or injury can put your life in danger in the event of snatching the chain by the thief.

One can keep a maid or group of housekeepers if they want. But, utter most preparation must be done and precautions to be taken in order to run the house smoothly. Don’t suspect for everything on the maid. Take necessary action only if the maid caught red handed. Also remember to ensure that, the punishment given by you does not cause mental or physical problems to the caught maid. Simply look for another, if the present maid is not ok.

Give respect and regards to maid’s work

Whatever may be the relationship between the owner and the maid, but, the owner should remember to give respect and regards to maid’s work. But, owner should ensure that the maid completes the work assigned, in time.

The house keeper may be from poor family. But, there must be some emotional attachment between the two. Otherwise, the contract become questionable.
