Change the Lock & keys of doors

  • 1. Change the keys of doors and windows by new lock sets, when you shift your house. The keys set given by the owner might be used by many tenants. Thus, these keys cannot be trusted. Keep the locks replaced, with you so that, you can change back, when you are shifting out, of the house.
  • 2. Never share crucial keys such as, main door, back door keys with your friends, unless they are also staying with you.
  • 3. Change the lock itself, if you have called lock opener, if a set of key is lost, and you have another set inside the home.
  • 4. Try to be a thief by yourself in your home! You will come to know what possible ways a thief enters in to the house. It is a good practice to know the flaws in the security system of your home.

Lock up everything


  • 5. Lock up everything, not only the doors, but, also the windows too, even if you are going out for a short period. This will of course, can confuse the thief, even if you go out for a longer period.
  • 6. Never discuss, that you are going out for a longer period, that, too, when some stranger is with you or with the neighbor.
  • 7. Your house should appear like fully occupied, even if you are not there inside the house. How? You might think something yourself; But, this can be done through the help of automated security systems, that can turn on/off the switches of door lights, etc. Just purchase them and keep ON when you are out.

Minimize the risk of a possible burglary

  • 8. If you are using a faulty alarm then it will be ignored by your neighbors. Therefore, it is good practice to inform them, immediately fixing faulty alarm.
  • 9. Before handing over the keys to a house maid, ascertain about her behavior. Ask your neighbor about her whereabouts, back ground, etc. so, that, you minimize the risk of a possible burglary.

  • 15. Trees near your house sometimes prove to be dangerous, as a thief may prefer the same to hide before gaining entry into your house, possibly.
  • 16. If a stranger comes to make a phone call and you are yourself alone inside the house, then you should not allow the stranger to enter and also to make a call. Instead, ask them to wait outside and ask them the number which they want to make a call, and make a call by your self. Also ensure that, the doors are locked from inside.

  • 17. A dog can be one of the best options that you can afford to. Dogs are being famous for their ability to sniff and identify strangers. They have good sense of humor and intelligent nasal capabilities.
