The white house organizes and coordinates all the activities of the Home Land Security under the aegis of Homeland Security Council. The main goal and aim of the Home Land Security is to provide safety and protection to properties and people against terrorist attack within United States and to make USA strong and less vulnerable. Since Federal Emergency Management Services is under Home Land Security it has added responsibility to protect, to prepare, to salvage the nation from natural calamities.

The main features of Home Land Security are that it should be well prepared and to react immediately to terror attacks and natural disasters. The police, volunteers, medical personnel, emergency services, and fire department are always on alert and spring into action when the need arises. National monuments, places of national importance, military and defense area come under security canopy of the Home Land Security Services. Safeguarding and providing security to the borders including maritime and land come under the Home Land Security. The domestic transport including the aviation industry comes under the protective wing. Providing adequate security to food and plant supplies and to find out the existence of radioactive substances. There is a constant updating of research and development carried out to protect the nation for the next generation.

Civil Defense forms an important security as civilians form an easy target to terrorist’s bombings. Home Land Security is always ready to handle emergency situations to protect their civilians. The supply chain security is important and the cargo shipments have to be scrutinized, as they are easy targets to transport illegal goods, which might threaten the security of the nation.
